Web Blogging or MBA Degree – Whats Better ??
Before you start reading this article i would like you to understand one thing in your mind – All MBA’s dont succeed and most bloggers Fail. Hence there is no point comparing any of these failures with each other and moving backwards. Here is a practical calculated example which differentiates both of these topics and lets you understand whats better and whats not.
Initial Setup Stage : Once you have completed your Graduation you will be looking for further studies which is when you start searching for all the different MBA Universities located in your country and also in the Eastern countries. The foremost investment would be your time and web surfing expenses for a few days, for researching and making a list of all the colleges which are on the top and which offer the courses you are looking for. Once you find all the universities and colleges, you will have to apply for an admission with most of these requesting you to pay a admission form fees, entrance test fees, information brochure request fees etc each of which costing 25-50$ each. You would have already spent around 200$ till this stage where in you are not confirmed about any college and you are just trying out all the available options.
On the other hand if you are a new blogger you would first look for ideas for blogging, free blog resources, information on top bloggers, how other web blogs were launched and their income in order to get inspired from this stuff after which you can plan out on your blog. Once the research stuff is done you would have to buy a domain name and a hosting account which would cost you 20$ minimum for a years time which includes .com domain name, Linux Cpanel based web hosting account with a MySql database. Once this is done you are ready to install a blog with the help of Cpanel tutorial. At almost 10% of the cost of applying to few MBA colleges you are already a owner of a web blog running waiting for your content. Till this stage you have already saved 90% of what you would have lost if you had gone for a MBA degree.
Level 2 : This is the stage in MBA where you have finally selected a MBA College and you have decided for pursuing a course with a professional college. Most MBA Colleges and Universities charge fees in the range of 20000$+ for a 1-2 years term based on the specialization. This is an average fees for any eastern university and you need to pay more when you have signed up for a boarding school. When you are into blogging you need to continuously work with a lot of dedication and make sure you dont miss any day. You can again for smart publicity of your web blog with a decent 2000$ budget which is 10% of your MBA College fees. In terms of Smart Publicity i mean going for different ways of advertising which may be low costing but would give you a larger audience. Instead of buying banners or advertising on Google Adwords you can promote your website in the form of Pamplets, Creative and low costing Business Cards with Calendars, Printed Pens, Printed Mouse Pads all of which would be used in the daily life by the receivers and you can expect regularly returning visitors.
Final Result : In a classroom of 40 students, not all 40 would be employed in a MNC and atleast 50% would be left without a job or a very low paying job which they have to do because they are left with no other option. In the very same way in case of blogging atleast 50% of the bloggers would still be in the same position because of non-dedication, lower interest, lazy blogging etc. In the other 50% , some of them would opt for their own business rather than working for a MNC but this article is for people who are looking for jobs after completing their Post-Graduation.
Money Talk : When we talk about the calculations it can be a really interesting point because in case of MBA you would be shelling out atleast 20000USD for getting a degree in your hand after 2 years of dedicated education, hard work and after this you would be getting jobs in the range of 10000-15000$/Year which would slowly increase in the range of 5-10% every year and this also depends on your own efforts and the companies growth.
5 Years Calculations : (Approx)
Year 1, Year 2 MBA : 20000$ Investment
Year 3 Job : 15000$ Salary
Year 4 Job : 20000$ Salary
Year 5 Job : 30000$ Salary
Extra Benefits : Few Bonds + Perks : 30000$ Value
Net Value : 75000$ in 5 years period
Year 1 Blogging : 2000$ Advertising + Hosting & 6000$ Revenue
Year 2 Blogging : 1200$ Hosting & 15000$ Revenue
Year 3 Blogging : 1800$ Hosting & 36000$ Revenue
Year 4 Blogging : 2400$ Hosting & 60000$ Revenue
Year 5 Blogging : 3000$ Hosting & 120000$ Revenue
Extra Benefits : Valuable Fame + Blog Asset Valued at 15x Monthly Revenue : 150000$ Value
Net Value : 376000$ in 5 years period
I have myself been to a MBA college and in my experience these MBA Faculties wont be teaching you much stuff and would rather repeat the same line always – ‘You MBA Students are not small kids who should be spoon fed’ , and on this point basis every day 1 student would be taking the class and teach all the other students. Here starts the home work where you need to get ready your next days presentation where no one would be helping you unless yourself. You need to research on your next days Class Presentation and make sure you have acquired complete knowledge on the topic. During the presentation any one from the Class may be asking you few doubts and you should be ready with the answers and this is only possible when you have done excellent research and practice on that specific topic.
The very same no one is really going to help you make money, but the excellent guides available on the web and the help desks can help you in guiding yourself towards the top. You can contact different bloggers for help in ranking and getting yourself onto the top. You can clearly see that in a short or the long term you are still 5 times richer than B-School MBA Degree holders. You can always complete your MBA course through a Open-University and get a Degree Certification but if you are really serious about your time and money, then its a decision time. Most of the above numbers are actually lowered in case of blogging revenue because iam myself at 2nd year of blogging on this blog and making a lot more than the above estimations, which clearly tells you at anyone can atleast reach those approx figures with hard work and dedications.

First, thanks for the comment …
As said in the first few lines, i would like to repeat them here : “All MBA’s dont succeed and most bloggers Fail. Hence there is no point comparing any of these failures with each other and moving backwards.”
Blogging can be a good source of income for those who can write well and and have the talent to describe out the thing in a simple and systematic manner. Though i dont claim that i have those …
The point in question here is the ratio and country you come from ..
Try explaining to folks around you that you make money from blogging, I bet 90% don’t know what’s blogging, 9% think blogging is on blogspot and is not legitimate.
Now try telling them you are an MBA graduate and they get what you do .. it doesn’t really matter if you are an MBA and you are selling something doing door-to-door marketing.
It’s all about perception. You get to decide the way you want your life. Blogging, if done correctly has good money in it.
Now you decide, if you want to impress others saying you are an MBA grad, or make money as a blogger and do good for yourself and your family ?
This doesn’t mean that I’m against an MBA grad, it has it’s own advantages, again it depends where you are graduating from .. that’s a different topic all together
And finally answer to the second question is that, currently my gross earning sums upto Rs 30000 per month i.e. $600/month which will surely sum above $6000 per year. This is my 4th month of blogging and i am sure that earnings will increase as the days pass by …
